“Ma Lei ancora non mi ha detto in cosa/chi crede Signora?”
Rifletto su questa domanda mentre scorrono i titoli di coda di My Lady con Emma Thompson. Le persone intorno a me non si sono alzate, si asciugano le lacrime. Una donna a due poltrone da me interrompe la mia riflessione:

-Cosa ne pensa?
-Di cosa?
-Del finale.
-Veramente riflettevo sul “credere”…
-Ah! E lei, in cosa crede Signora?
-Non ho bisogno di credere.

Alla mia risposta, la donna torna lo sguardo verso lo schermo. Durante il suo silenzio evidentemente riflessivo, la osservo. Ha dei tratti orientali, sembra un’anziana modella di Balthus. Si volta verso di me, dice:

-Anche il personaggio della Thompson sembra una agnostica…
-Non sono agnostica.
-L’è piaciuto il film?
-Prima di tutto è un libro. Poi un film. Ed Emma Thompson è nelle ossa del personaggio.
-Vuole dire bene?
-Voglio dire aderente.

“But madam, you haven’t told me yet what/who do you believe in?”
I am thinking about this question while the final credits of My Lady with Emma Thompson are rolling down. People around me have stood up, drying their tears. A woman two seats from me interrupts my reflection:

-What do you think?
-About what?
-About the finale.
-I was actually thinking about “believing” …
-Ah! And you, madam what do you believe in?
-I don’t need to believe.

To my reply, the woman goes back with her glance to the screen. During her silence evidently reflexive, I observe her. She has oriental features, she looks like a Balthus’ old model, she turns to me, says:

-Thompson’s character as well seems an agnostic…
-I am not agnostic.
-Did you like the movie?
-First it is a book. Then a movie. And Emma Thompson is in the bones of the character.
-Do you mean she is good?
-I mean she is adherent.

Io non riesco a fargli delle domande.
Penso quale importanza abbia avuto Marlon Brando nella sua generazione.
Lui interrompe il mio pensiero chiedendo:

-Sono un demente? Sono fissato con Marlon Brando anche adesso che sono vecchio e so che era un misogino aggressivo pezzo di merda e…
-Ok, Ok… ho capito… Era anche un bravissimo attore… Non voglio difenderlo… Tuttavia potremmo usare un linguaggio più consono alla sua arte.
-Scusa ma… Mi sta sulle palle che continui a esistere nella mia vita come referente!
-Lui soltanto?
-Ti rendi conto cosa ci ha fatto il cinema?
-Sì… Capisco!
-E se continua la crisi cosa sognerò? Un attore da soap-opera?
-No, beh…

-Che meglio sognare Marlon Brando piuttosto che sognarsi iPhone…
-Beh, a me piacerebbe sentire che con un tocco delle dita mi tiri fuori delle informazioni! Essere un’altra biblioteca del mondo!

I cannot ask him any question.
I think on how important Marlon Brando must have been in his
generation.
He interrupts my thought asking:

-Am I demented? I am stuck with Marlon Brando even now that I am old and that I know that he was a misogynist aggressive piece of shit and…
-Ok, Ok… I got it… He was also a very good actor… I don’t want to defend him… But we could use a more suited language for his art.
-Sorry but… It really bothers me that he continues to exist as a referent in my life!
